Graduation and Portfolio show

I just got back from an exciting and pretty eventful 2 day trip. Thursday was my graduation and portfolio show. I had the opportunity to put some of my work on display for hundreds at the fashion show mall and I got to see how my reel looks on a 16x9 foot LED big screen monitor! I made some new contacts and some new friends and it was an overall positive experience. Phew. It feels good to finally be completely done with school and to get started on my career path.

Immediately following, I was off to LA for a job interview at Electric Studios where I hope to start as an intern come mid or late October. I got the chance to check out LA up close and personal. I look foward to moving out there as soon as I solidify my plans.

New beginnings

I made a good dent in the production of the website today -- hopefully it will be ready for launch very shortly. So far the layout's looking elegant but also a little bland so I may splash it with a little color before pulling back the curtian.
Tomorrow I wake up bright and early to hammer out an animation for a long time employer and friend. An update on that along with a vimeo upload will follow stay tuned. Another reel edit is due in my portfolio presentation on Wednesday for mid-terms as well. Lots of work ahead and I'm excited to see how things turn out.

v-ger rebranding

I remember my 6th or 7th quarter in towards the completion of my degree I was given a group and 8 weeks to do an entire branding for a ficitional scifi network called "V-Ger". My instructor acted as a "real life client" and each week we had to present our progress and ask questions to prepare us for client interfacing.

To meet the motion graphics requirement of my demo reel I decided to revisit the ol' V-Ger ident -- although this time by myself and over the course of a week. I dug up some scifi channel references and threw together another package and I'm content with the results.

V-Ger Rebranding from Stephen Siegel on Vimeo
Simple and basic but elegant and professional. A color pallette of just plain greens and very modern organic "techy" light effects sells a distincitive scifi motif.
Can't wait to see how it flows with the summer 09' demo reel @ final cut.

First blog post

How exciting -- my first blog post. Hopefully I'll keep it more up to date than my facebook and my myspace which I can't even remember last checking. Seems like the only thing I even touch is my youtube. There's a whole collection of motion graphics shwag I've uploaded there over the past 2 years some of which is my work some isn't. Check it out:
